Subject says it all. Had a pretty long discussion (still ongoing), with Allan Day (gnome3) and Patryk Zawadzki (my co-hamsterer), both insisting on “leaving shell alone”. So decided to move the extension [back] to github – i will be certainly working on it more.
The official integration will go through the notification area.
Does this mean that it will work with Ubuntu’s Unity shell?
dunno, think so though – try it out from the git master!
hamster-shell-extension from github won’t work with unity. Solution for unity is in implementing appindicator (something like status icon) e.g. https://github.com/tseliot/hamster-appindicator
that’s not what i was saying. i meant – try installing hamster from git.gnome.org and run the standalone
I am sorry. I tested hamster from git.gnome.org but it didn’t work.
gtk.StatusIcon is not supported in Unity => every application should use AppIndicator instead/in the same time as gtk.StatusIcon.
ok, that’s something that can be easily checked and fixed. why don’t you write a patch?
I’ve played with it a little bit and moved code from hamaster-appindicator project to hamster-applet. You can find the merged project at https://github.com/iyonius/Hamster-applet
This could be base for further integration for hamster with GNOME 3 and Unity.
Cloned, compiled, installed, no problems – fedora 15 – cheers.
The extension is certainly heading in the direction I would want.
Hi, could you add an RSS feed to your blog, please. It’s much easier to keep up to date via RSS. Thanks.
not sure which reader you use but this is standard wordpress. in google reader you can just paste this url and it will pick up the url of the feed. i will see to add an explicit link here too
Thank you
Some update to Unity support?
